What Is The Orange XML or RSS Icon I See More More On Web Sites?

This question does not have a one sentence answer! If I just said one uses this icon get a site's RSS feed, you still won't understand. So let's try answer you such a way all makes sense you and, more importantly, you learn how benefit from it.

Let's say that you like my web site very much you would like read new content I add it. At this stage there no way informing you when I've added a new page except notifying you by email. This assumes that you've provided me with your e-mail address - which most people are hesitant do any way. The other way you bookmark my site - but how many times do people really go back a site?

What if I told you that you could have a little "window" (called a reader or an aggregator) your monitor that, each time I updated my site, you are automatically informed about it. How, you may ask? A headline (called a news feed) a short summary inform/tease you squirted your reader. If teaser interests you, all you need do follow hyperlink that will take you that page my web site where you can read all. If you're not interested, you simply delete headline. The process repeated each time I add new content.

You can course subscribe many feeds you want - from current affairs people's personal blogs (a blog short web log which a diary or a journal internet).

So, what must you do set up how much going cost?

You are now ready add your first feed.

As an example I'll walk you through process adding my site http://www.perfect-party-ideas.com 's XML feed. Navigate site. On home page you will see orange XML icon. Right-click XML icon then click "Copy Shortcut" option.

Open RSSReader click green "+ Add" icon top left hand corner. A form opens up that prompts you enter URL feed. Just paste URL here (ctrl-v). Well done - you've just added your very first RSS feed.

Let's test if working. Click "Get" icon which left "+Add" icon. You should see a number feeds arriving your reader. Simply double-click ones you are interested read summary. Click "Read more" or "Open a Browser" links if you want read whole article.

Was that difficult? No, I agree, it's fairly straight forward.
