Researching Male Pattern Baldness

By: Marlene Baliss

Are you a man who has thinning hair, and you are worried about where it is leading? Well, join millions of other men who endure hair loss each year. There are a plethora of reasons for hair loss, all which relate to specific physiological reactions. One of the most well-known hair-loss problems is known as male pattern baldness.

If you are one of those men, then take some time to research and learn a bit about the condition, as doing so may itself ease your mind to some degree. There are possible remedies that might help your situation, depending on the state of your hair follicles and so on. However, keep in mind that most men will have hair that thins with age, and many of them also develop bald patches on the scalp. You are not alone in this, that is certain.

In the early stages of male pattern baldness, you can assume there are a variety of potential causes. Though not every cause has a corresponding solution, it can help to learn more about the problem in any case.

Male pattern baldness is most often attributed to genetics. It may result from either male or female genes passed down from your family. Often, baldness from genetics is related to dihyrdo-testosterone (DHT). The gene that indicates baldness causes a small amount of nutrients produced in your hair to react with your hormones and cause you to go bald as you age. The older you get, the more these compounds will react to each other and cause increased baldness or thinning of the hair.

Testosterone changes as we age, and although scientists have not completely sorted out all of the specific cause and effect relationships between hormones and baldness, they continue to work on the problem. Our bodies normally produce enzymes that help hair grow. However, as we age, and as testosterone changes in composition, it can interact with these enzymes, leading to negative effect on hair growth.

However, if you find your hair loss is more rapid, and perhaps chunks of hair are falling out, then you should consult your physician. You may be suffering from one of the many diseases that cause hair loss, rather than male pattern baldness, so your situation may be more serious. In other words, rapid hair loss is not normally an indication of male baldness, so talk to your doctor as soon as you can.

If you are experiencing male pattern baldness, you will want to know about a variety of treatments that can prevent further thinning and loss. By understanding the causes, as well as knowing what you can do to prevent it, you will be more likely to find an effective treatment. This may result in a reduction in thinning, and healthier hair as you age. Male pattern baldness is a common genetic and hormonal problem suffered by many men, and there are ways for you to get help in addressing the problem.

But be warned that there are a great many claims made, often with little proof of effectiveness. The hair loss industry has a history of drawing unscrupulous cheats who prey on vulnerable men who are usually at the prime of their earning power in life. So talk to family members or friends who have faced the same situation, and see if they have any recommendations. Talk to your physician. Do some research about products and organizations that you are considering using. Take your time, and be careful where you tread!
